Sworn translation in Turkey is the translation signed and sealed by a sworn translator. Sworn translation is done by notaries. Notary publics give sworn translator authority to those who have university-level diplomas in a foreign language. The notary public only certifies the signature of the sworn translator who is affiliated to him.

A sworn translation can be required by government agencies such as government departments, universities, notaries, banks, marriage offices, and consulates. It is required in areas like diploma translation, visa translation, and passport translation. Some official agencies accept the translation of documents done by a sworn translator, while some of them want the documents notarized by notaries. Notary public can’t certify a document without sworn translation. You must have it done at the sworn translation office of the notary you applied. So, how to be a sworn translator?

Currently, the sworn translator title is only given by notaries in Turkey. If you have the required conditions, you should show the documents indicating that you have these conditions to the notary. After that, the notary must be convinced that you can do a sworn translation. Since notaries are places where trust is provided on behalf of the government, notaries must be convinced and trust you. After the positive decision of the notary public, a sworn translator report is prepared on your behalf in the notary. Then the sworn translator will stand up before the notary public and read the oath text. After this oath, the oath report is signed by a notary public and sworn translator and a copy of it is filed for storage in notary public office and a copy is submitted to the sworn translator. After these stages, you get the title of a notary approved sworn translator.
